New, Inclusive Website Design Provides Options for the Disability Community

Our new website provides more information and access to resources for persons with disabilities across the CSRA and SC Low Country

Walton Options for Independent Living announced the launch of their new, inclusive website today. The new site features more information about Walton Options’ three office locations, services, and programs as well as an interactive Events Calendar and fully updated News section. Additionally, information about Independent Living, advocacy, rights, partner organizations and various resources has been expanded.

“We work with persons from across the disability community, offering a wide range of services and resources and need to have an online presence for not only our consumers but our partners and our communities,” stated Tiffany Clifford, Executive Director at Walton Options. “We have also worked to have the design of our website be an example for business or organizations to show how inclusive, universal design can be beneficial for the entire community.”

The development team has worked with website designers Elevation to make sure the website is fully accessible to those with disabilities. The features include easier navigation and access to those who utilize screen-reader programs such as Job Access With Speech (JAWS) as well as offering adjustable contrasts, adjustable font sizing, accessible non-mouse navigation, and accessible link assistance.

“Unfortunately our old website limited us in a variety of ways including accessibility,” explained Development and Communications Specialist Ann Campbell-Kelly. “We are very excited with the opportunity our new website presents. Not only have we been able to expand our content and resources by showcasing our activities and services, we are also able to highlight snap-shots of our work in the community. And the best part is that anyone visiting the website will have access to the content and materials through our new accessibility features.”

The Walton Options’ website provides comprehensive details about what a Center for Independent Living (CIL) actually is, how Walton Options works within the community & for persons with disabilities, the core services of a CIL, and an online presence for current and potential consumers and partners. The new website also links through to Walton Options’ Facebook, Twitter and Instagram Accounts.
