For persons who have recently become blind, or are gradually losing their sight, Walton Options can assist by providing instruction in orientation and mobility, communication and training in relearning tasks of daily living. Walton can help a person use and obtain communication devices and training, such as using JAWS software for a computer – which enables a person to be able to read and write email messages and utilize text on their computer. In addition, we also teach Braille on an individual or class bases. Other items, such as magnifiers, household utensils, etc., are also available and instruction with each item can be provided. Walton Options also works with Prevent Blindness of Georgia to provide vision screening – please call to see when the next screening will be held. In addition, for persons who may qualify through our Older Blind Program, we offer low vision screening and services. These services are for people whose eyesight is or is becoming progressively worse and may require more than traditional eye exams. Our program with the Augusta Lions Club enables us to supply a small number of persons with disabilities with eyeglasses. This program is very limited and there is often a waiting list, please call us for information.
