CSRA Area Agency on Aging -
http://www.csrardc.org/csra/aging/aaa.htmWalton Options has partnered
with the CSRA Area Agency on Aging to assist seniors with disabilities through
Operation Independence. Operation Independence provides home modifications,
durable medical equipment and small assistive technology to the elderly to
assist them in living more independently in their own homes and not be forced
into the choice of a nursing home or other institutional care.
The CSRA also hosts the regions
Aging and Disability Resource Connection, providing information on other
agencies that can assist the elderly and people with disabilities.
Georgia Department of
Labor
Walton Options works with the Georgia DoL to provide independent living skills
training to people with disabilities, as well as employment skills training for
people whose independent living goals include becoming employed or returning to
employment. In addition, through the
Georgia Tools for Life program,
Walton Options works with people who may be in need of assistive technology to
enhance the quality of their lives. This technology could be as complex as a
computerized communication device that can serve as a ‘voice’ for a person with
verbal limitations; or as simple as a weighted eating utensil so that someone
with limited hand control can more easily eat independently.
As a Center for Independent Living, Walton Options works closely with the
Statewide Independent Living Councils in both
Georgia and
South Carolina to
provide peer support, advocacy, information and referral and independent living
skills training to persons with disabilities. If you are looking for information
on a Center for Independent Living near you, you can find a national directory
at the National Council for
Independent Living (NCIL) website, or check out any of the above sites to
learn more about what Centers for Independent Living in your area, and
nationally, do to further the rights of persons with disabilities.
